Obligatory Founder Story

Hi my name is Forrest. Yes, those are my feet up there :)

I’m the founder of Treads, and never thought I’d go from Goldman Sachs to hedge fund analyst to… selling flip flops. How did that happen?

It started in 2015 when I quit my finance job to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I spent a year traveling around the world - through Asia, Europe, and Africa. One place that made a big impression on me was Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world. While I took away a lot from the experience, I also brought back something more tangible - a pair of flip flops made from recycled tire treads.

When I got back to New York, people kept asking about my cool flip flops, so I finally decided to set up Treads earlier this year to help connect artisans in Malawi with their global customers. Together, we can provide the world with high-quality, good-for-the-environment flip flops while providing people in Malawi with a path out of poverty.
